The Best Accommodation Near the University of Sunderland
Why a self-catering short let is the smarter choice for students, families and visiting groups
Whether you are a student arriving for freshers week, a family visiting for graduation, or a group of friends supporting someone through their first year, finding the right accommodation close to the University of Sunderland makes a genuine difference to the experience. Our property on Wentworth Terrace puts you just a 5-minute walk from the City Campus — which covers Business, Law, Media, Arts and many of the university's most popular courses.
Why Location Matters at the University of Sunderland
The University of Sunderland has two main campuses: the City Campus in the heart of Sunderland city centre, and the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter's, which sits on the riverbank about a 12-minute walk further on. Both are comfortably reachable on foot from SR4 7AD, making our property one of the most centrally placed short let options in the city for university visitors.
For students who are moving to Sunderland for the first time, spending a few nights in a fully equipped house nearby gives you time to explore the city before you commit to your permanent accommodation. You can walk the campus, get a feel for the neighbourhood, check out the supermarkets (Lidl and Aldi are both within 10 minutes on foot), and arrive at the start of term feeling settled rather than overwhelmed.
Graduation Weekends
Graduation is one of those occasions where hotel rooms never quite feel right. The family travels up — parents, grandparents, siblings — and you end up scattered across several rooms in a Premier Inn, spending the evening in a car park rather than together. A four-bedroom house changes that entirely. Everyone stays under one roof. There is a proper kitchen for a celebratory dinner, a living room to gather in, and enough space that the experience actually matches the occasion.
We regularly welcome families visiting for graduation and are happy to accommodate short stays — two or three nights is perfect for a graduation weekend. Check our availability early, as graduation periods book up quickly.
Student Groups and Freshers
If you are arriving as a group of students — either for the start of term or for a campus visit before making your final choice — our property comfortably sleeps up to 8. With 4 bedrooms, free high-speed WiFi, a full kitchen, and a washing machine, it is genuinely practical for a group stay rather than simply somewhere to sleep. The city centre location also means the university, the shops, the Metro station, and Sunderland's growing restaurant and bar scene are all within easy walking distance.
Parents Helping Students Move In
Moving-in weekend is one of the most logistically demanding days of a student's life — and their parents'. If you are driving up from elsewhere in the country with a car full of belongings, having a comfortable base nearby makes the whole process significantly easier. Our free parking for 3-4 vehicles means the car (or van) is right outside, and after a long day of carrying boxes up stairs, a proper house to come back to matters.
Getting from Our Property to the University
The walk to the University of Sunderland City Campus takes around 5 minutes on foot — a straightforward route through the city centre. The St Peter's Campus on the riverbank is a pleasant 12-minute walk along the Wear, or a 3-minute drive. The Pallion Metro station is also 10 minutes on foot, giving easy access to the wider Tyne and Wear Metro network if you need to travel further afield.
